Charles H. Muir Charles H. Muir was born on 19 March 1877. Known as "Uncle Charley," he was Commanding General of the 28th Division during World War I and beloved by the Iron Division doughboys. He led the 28th Division through victory after victory from the Marne to the Aisne, up the valley to the muddy little Aire, to the storming of Apremont, Chatel-Chehery, and the brilliant maneuver of Le Chene Tondu. Honors Muir Army Airfield Eastern Army Aviation Training Site (EAATS), Fort Indiantown, PA, is named in his honor. Death and Burial Major General Charles H. Muir died on 23 February 1959 in Longwood, FL. He is buried at Longwood Memorial Gardens in Longwood. |
