Thomas Bernard Larkin Thomas Bernard Larkin was born on 15 December 1890 in Louisburg, WI. Larkin graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in 1915. In WW I, he was in action performing reconnaissance and was Director of the 2nd Corps Engineer School, France. After the war he served as an Instructor at the Engineer School, VA; Assistant Military Attaché, American Embassy, Tokyo, Japan: the office of Chief of Engineers, Washington; and on the staff of the Governor of the Panama Canal Department. At the outbreak of WW II, he went to the England as Commanding General of the Services of Supply, Mediterranean Sector and by the end of the war he was Commander of Supplies for the entire European Theater of Operations. In January 1946, he was promoted to Major General, 32nd Quartermaster General, by President Truman. In office, he launched the program for return and final burial of American service personnel and civilians who died overseas during WW II. In March 1949, he was assigned as the Army's Director of Logistics and promoted to Lieutenant General. He served until he retired on 31 December 1952. Medals and Awards Distinguished Service Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters Foreign Medals and Awards Croix de Guerre with Palm (France) Death and Burial Lieutenant General Thomas Bernard Larkin died on 17 October 1968 in Washington, DC. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. |
