Thomas Hunt

Date of birth is unknown.

Thomas Hunt was born in the Colony of Massachusetts. He was a Sergeant in Captain Croft's Company of Minutemen at the Battle of Lexington and Concord in April 1775. On 1 January 1776, he became a member of the 25th Continental Infantry and transferred to Jackson's Continental Regiment as a Captain on 1 February 1777.

Wounded at the Battle of Stoneypoint on 16 July 1779, he transferred to the 9th Massachusetts Regiment on 1 January 1781, and was wounded again at the Battle of Yorktown on 14 October 1781. After the Revolution, he remained in the Army, transferring to the 3rd Massachusetts Regiment on 1 January 1783 and returned to Jackson's Continental Regiment in November 1783.

He became a Captain in the 3rd U.S. Infantry on 4 March 1791 and was promoted to Major on 18 February 1793. He was reassigned to the 1st U.S. Infantry on 1 November 1796 and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 1 April 1802 and to Colonel on 11 April 1803.

Death and Burial

Colonel Thomas Hunt died on 16 August 1808 and was buried at Fort Bellefontaine, MO. He was removed to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, in April of 1904.
