Irving Hale
Brevet Brigadier General, U.S. Army

Irving Hale was born on 28 August 1861 in Bloomfield, NY.

Hale commanded the 1st Colorado Infantry Volunteers during the Spanish-American War. He was awarded the Silver Star and brevetted Brigadier General on 13 August 1898 for "distinguished gallantry in action."

He founded the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization in 1899. After founding the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he served as Commander of VFW Post #1 in Denver and designed the Cross of Malta emblem currently used by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Death and Burial

Brigadier General Irving Hale died on 26 July 1930 in Denver, CO. He is buried at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, CO.
