Richard Dale Richard Dale was born on 6 November 1756. Dale served in the British Navy from 1776 to 1777, when he took up the cause of the Revolution. He served as second-in-command to Captain John Paul Jones of the USS Bon Homme Richard when he fought the famous battle with the HMS Serapis. Dale was later promoted to Lieutenant and commanded Continental Vessels. Promoted to Commander in 1794, he led the Navy squadron in the Mediterranean Gulf during the 1801-1802 Barbary Coast War. Death and Burial Commander Richard Dale died on 26 February 1826. Originally buried at the Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia, PA, in 1988 Dale was reinterred at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr |
