George Alfred Caldwell George Alfred Caldwell was born on 18 October 1814. Caldwell served in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War, being commissioned Major and Quartermaster of Volunteers on 26 June 1846. On 3 March 1847, he was promoted to Major of Infantry and then joined the Voltigeurs one month later. He rendered particularly brave service at the Battle of Chapultepec, Mexico, and was brevetted Lieutenant Colonel. He was mustered out of the Army on 25 August 1848. Caldwell was elected to represent Kentucky's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1843-45 and 1849-51. Also served as a member of the Kentucky State Legislature. Death and Burial Lieutenant Colonel George Alfred Caldwell died on 17 September 1866. He is buried at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY. |
