Biography:

Paul Raymond Adams
MR3, U.S. Navy

Paul Raymond Adams was born on 9 January 1936, the youngest child of Rudolph Joseph Adams and Winifred Laura (Kessler) Adams of Crawford County, IA. His grandparents were Gustav Adolph Adams and Julia Saloma "Julie" (Kappes) Adams. His great-grandparents were Albert Adams, and Marianna Amalia (Pioch) Adams, who were both natives of Prussia.

After enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1954, Paul became a skilled machinist. He continued in this profession after being honorably discharged in 1958.

On 22 November 1959, he married his wife. He worked in Long Beach, CA, for many years and then moved to Portland where he was a machinist for Precision Castparts until he retired in 1999.

Paul was a champion fisherman and hunter. He was also a prolific gardener, a terrific cook, and a talented jack-of-all-trades. His pleasures were playing cards and board games, and spending time with family and friends. He was great fun to be around and was a bit of a practical joker.

Paul took great pride in being a good provider for his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife and he was adored by his daughters. He was also loved by his sons-in-law, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Paul and his wife found great joy in raising their three daughters: Deborah Pauline, Denise Paulalee and Delaina Paulette. They never missed attending an activity that any of their girls were involved in, even when one of them lettered in four different sports during her senior year of high school.

Paul's seven grandchildren were the delights of his life. They were his granddaughters Erin, Megan and Morgan; and his grandsons Adam, John, Scott and Randy, Jr.

He was also survived by Steve, Kirk and Randy, Sr. They were his friends as well as his sons-in-law.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and all but one of siblings, Regina Olson of Galva, Iowa. He was also preceded in death by his friend and Regina's husband, Willard "Bud" Olson.

Paul and his wife were married for 50 years. They had celebrated their golden anniversary just two months before his death.

Death and Burial

Paul Adams died doing something he loved. On 26 January 2010, he and his wife were sharing a meal with fellow campers in an RV campground near Quartzsite. While visiting with their friends, Paul suffered a heart attack and died instantly.

In addition to his family, Paul left behind a host of friends. He is dearly missed by all who had the joy of knowing him. He enriched the lives of everyone he met.

Paul Raymond Adams is buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley, Clackamas County, OR.
