Oscar Brookins Private, U.S. Army Medal of Honor Recipient Spanish-American War Private Oscar Brookins (19 July 1869 - 18 August 1938) was a U.S. Army soldier who received the U.S. military's highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, for his heroic actions during the Battle of El Caney in the Spanish-American War. Oscar Brookins was born on 19 July 1869 in Byron, WI. Medal of Honor Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Army, Company C, 17th U.S. Infantry Place and date: El Caney, Cuba, 1 July 1898 Citation: Gallantly assisted in the rescue of the wounded from in front of the lines and under heavy fire from the enemy. Death and Burial Private Oscar Brookins died on 18 August 1938. He is buried at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, OH. |
